Fat Shaming - The poster here shows a woman who’s wondering whether she's beautiful or enough just because she doesn’t fit the notion of a perfect body. The typography here is done in a way that it almost looks like her thoughts are echoing & she has been surrounded by these doubts.
Vitiligo - This one talks about a person who has vitiligo and has finally accepted who she is (which is shown in the typography). A lot of textures have been used here for eg. the blotchy patches in the background represent vitiligo, and her hair and her clothes also have a hair-like texture.
Unrealistic standards - This one here shows how a measuring tape has captured a woman. The background has all the stereotypes attached to a woman’s body like having a big butt, a small waist, long legs etc.
We have been circling ourselves with people who have a certain preset of how a person’s body should look like, rather than accepting we’ve always had ourselves drawn to such demeaning and unloving behavioural patterns. Every day there is someone who reminds us that there is a stereotype of what a perfect body is, though all bodies are good bodies as they function equally nicely. We criticise others and ourselves because we’ve started believing that we don’t fit the standards of beauty designed by society. The brief for this project was to take a relevant topic and design a series of posters with the help of some visual constraints and guidelines. It was challenging at first to decide but then I thought of pushing my limits and I set the following design rules for my final outcome.
- Maintaining a monotone theme throughout.
- Using daily life instances where one feels demotivated or unworthy.
- Using strong hand-rendered illustrations rather than stock images to make it look authentic and powerful.
- Combining the elements with typography which give a background about the poster
- Using textures inspired by our bodies for eg. hair, skin etc.
